Isle of Wight Wightlink ferry withdrawn from service this evening
Wightlink customers have been advised to cancel or amend their bookings on the Portsmouth-Fisbourne Isle of Wight ferry this evening (Thursday, February 20) as the operator has been forced to withdraw one ferry from service.
The ferry service has withdrawn St Clare from service due to a technical problem involving two engines.
The withdrawal leaves just one ferry, St Faith, on the route, with Victoria of Wight in annual maintenance.]
A spokesperson for Wightlink has advised customers to cancel or amend their bookings online due to the ports being busy this evening.
Full refunds will be given free of charge.
Customers who need to return to the Island this evening can use Wightlink’s FastCat service free of charge and leave their vehicles in the Gunwharf Road Car Park.
The 6pm, 8pm, 10pm and 12am crossings from Portsmouth and the 7pm, 9pm, 11pm and 1am crossings from Fishbourne have been cancelled.
St Faith will run a shuttle service overnight, Wightlink said.
The Lymington-Yarmouth ferry is running to timetable but is fully booked.
Wightlink said in a statement: ” We apologise for disrupting travel plans for our customers this evening.
“Engineers are working to fix the problem, and we hope to bring St Clare back as soon as we can.
“St Faith will continue to run a shuttle service overnight.
“Wightlink’s Lymington to Yarmouth service is running as scheduled but is fully booked.
“As Wightlink’s Portsmouth and Fishbourne ports will be very busy this evening, we advise customers to cancel or amend their bookings online, full refunds will be given free of charge.
“Customers who need to return to the Island this evening, can use Wightlink’s FastCat foot passenger service free of charge and leave their vehicles in Wightlink’s Gunwharf Road car park.”
